GANNU BABA

GANNU BABA

As a small girl
I loved you the most
With your trunk swirled
My Vinayaka
I was drawn to you
You the elephant headed
The slightly paunched
Cutsie Ganpati Deva
Your curved trunk
Holding a laddu
Sitting on your mushaka
Placed in the middle
Of Nani's Mandir
Always the centre of attraction
Shining and gleaming
You my Gannu Baba
Everyone's Ganesha
Was my closest friend then
Even now..
For Nani told me that you are 'the vighnaharta'
The remover of obstacles
It's you Lambodar
To whom I turn to forever
In hours of crisis
When in need of a friend I miss
Happy you never left me alone
Helping me cross rivers and tread over stones
Tales of how much you loved your Mom
Showering her with respect and regard
How you circumbulated around her
And traversed the entire universe
Enthralled and encaptured
I still wait eagerly to celebrate you
During Ganeshotsav
And Durga Puja
When you came down with your mom
Your siblings and 'Kola Bou'
I loved the tale of your marriage with her
Teaching me how thrives the nature
Cohabitating with each other
The wisest of the wise
My Gannu on his mouse
I knew not for long
It was you who penned the Mahabharata
Recited to you by Saint Veda Vyasa
Breaking off your tusk
Using it as your pen
To be named Ekdant
Your bhakti gets in intelligence
Prosperity and success
You have the weapons
Yet fight with your skills all demons
Just a small modak
Or a little offering of doob(grass)
Is enough to make you happy
The coolest 'dev'
Ever so calm
The eldest born
Of Parvati and Mahadev
You taught me to be humble
Gracious magnanimous yet simple
To you my friend Gajanan
I bow in obeissance
