the clock strikes twelve
it's midnight
time to delve
into the grey darkness
of the soft soothing night
and for my last round of the day
as the curtains sway
along with the humming air conditioner
my cheerful green corner
doesn't look the same
as in the afternoon frame
cheerful and glowing
the green elves
each of their leaves drooping
look at me with eyes sleepy
outside the cricket turns freaky
each sound questioning
i smile at them
stroke them
wish them happier dreams
and a grey splashed with colour streams
then the fish splash
creating a musical mash
in their water bed
i turn to look at them
vying with each other to be read
to sing and dance
flowing in a trance
the little mermaids come closer
say 'we love you' in a loud whisper
for the night air to hear and stop
smile and sit atop
the rangoon creeper
bowing with the reddening flowers
all coming together
happy as the monsoon weather
in a flash the gold and black miniatures
dance and waltz
drenching in the golden light
they kiss me 'goodnight'
across the mellow glass wall
and time stood still but the night crawls
