POVERTY
I see those hungry eyes two,
Lonely, sad, not knowing who,
Every day I see such hunger,
Sitting under
Trees, shades, devoid of a meal any longer,
Will someone give them a few morsels I wonder.
At times I sit with them,
Share my humble meal with them,
Then my eyes catch their fleshless skin,
The ribs standing out from the cage within,
I turn away my eyes ashamed,
Why cannot hunger be tamed!
With hardly any clothes on,
With life they struggle on,
Bare and hungry,
Lord! Why did you drive them to such penury!
No place to call their home,
Here and there orphaned they roam.
So much hardship and deprivation,
Agonising destitution,
Without anyone to stop and help,
They bear Destiny's skelp,
To ease the belly fires they beg,
Dragging along their listless legs.
At times abused,
Sometimes away they are shooed,
Their poverty stares,
Still no one dares,
To fight it out,
Stop it from henceforth to sprout.
Oh! Penury and Poverty,
Why are you so mighty?
Is it because we ignore the living,
Get laurels by killing,
Are we scared to give life a good deal,
Spare a few bucks to clothe some, give some a meal.
We spend on guns and weapons,
Exposing all to threatens
Of war and rampage,
Of killings and lifelong damage
To humanity,
Utterly driven by inhumanity, much insanity.
Let us all pledge instead to pledge a war against poverty,
With all love and care for the mankind, show humanity,
Pledge to feed a few mouths,
Bring smiles to their eyes, kill their dearth,
Only then can we call ourselves human beings,
Sharing and taking care of our fellow beings.
War begets destruction and poverty,
Love gets development and liberty,
Abundance and fertility,
To fight hunger, needs and scarcity,
Hearts full of love, come to fight you out of visibilities,
Go away! Leave us ! Down with you 'Poverty'!
