O love, you came upon my wandering breast
Like sudden winds that waken earth from rest;
Your eyes, twin planets in a twilight sky,
Drew forth the hidden soul of mine to fly.
Soft as the rose that trembles into bloom,
Your touch dispelled my winter’s lingering gloom.
A nectar’d warmth along my spirit ran,
More sweet than Spring’s first blush on mortal man.
Your voice, low-murmur’d as an evening stream,
Stirred in my heart some long-forgotten dream.
And all the air grew rich with amber light,
As though the stars took pity on the night.
I felt your breath like petals on my cheek,
A holy fire no storm could rend or break.
Even as tempests gathered ‘round our sighs,
Their fury melted in your earnest eyes.
For passion’s flame, once kindled, knows no shroud,
It burns the brighter when the winds grow loud.
Thus, hand in hand, we tread where rapture lies,
Our love a seraph’s hymn beneath the skies.
