Republic Day has always had an important place in my life.  Growing up as a small town girl with an armyman as a father, the parades, the tableaus, the gallantry awards have always meant special( not to forget the bada khaanaas). Even after growing up I have tried not to miss any chance of catching up the celebrations on the idiotbox.

This year too was no exception. The boys at home were sleeping( they enjoy their chhuttis snoring, you see) and it was only me, Tani, Chiku and Appy in front of the television set. I settled down with my chai and the three snuggled close after their share of morning biscuits.
Colours attract me and the first thing that caught my eye was Modi ji's saafaa. My! My! Wasn't it so colourful and beautiful! The saafaa stole it all away from the PM 😊
Getting to see ten foreign dignitaries ( 10 leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN) as the guests who graced the occasion was a pleasant experience and a great diplomatic as well as political move of the government.
The National Anthem was played with a 21-gun salute after the unfurling of the tricolour by the President...did I stand up? Yes I did!
President Ram Nath Kovind was seen wiping his tears after he gave away the Ashok Chakra, India’s highest peacetime military decoration, to the Wife and Mother of Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala, a Garud Commando of the Indian Air Force (IAF), posthumously . This visual of his actually made all connect to him so easily. My heart went out to the Corporal's Wife and Mother as well as President Kovind. My salutes to Corporal Jyoti Prakash! One after the other the other the contingents of the various armed forces, the NCC and the Pilani School girls marched alongwith the various band contingents. I cheered up the brave kids awarded this year and at this point the hubby looked up, peeping out of the quilt, surprised.I wait for the school children eagerly every year. I specially liked the presentations of Mt. Abu Public School and of The North East Zone..the one with umbrellas. It reminded me of my school days and the umbrella dance of which I was also once a part of.The  tableaus were all well done but I missed the one from Goa. I was so proud to see the tableau of AIR. Felt as if I was up there too.The BSF girls- Seema Bhavanis performing on their motorcycles were awesome!! Hats off to them! They demonstrated girl power to the world and made us all feel so proud of them! The final feat- the air show! The Rudra Formation, the Hercules Formation, Netra, Globe Formation,Trishul Formation, Jaguar Formation etc. and the big birds MIG 29, Sukhois, Tejas had me spellbound. It all ended with a vertical Charlie by Group Captain Harpreet Luthra and his bird SU- MKI . I was also touching the sky with all glory alongwith these IAF men.All the colourfulness and vivacity continued with the release of coloured balloons( tri coloured ones). Another great day passed by. May we honour the Constitution, value humanity and treat all as equals!
