JORDAN

I do not think I ever believed in life after death. Nor do I want to now...but what should I do when this fellow comes in front of my eyes and behaves so much like him.
Sanjeev had seen Jordan's father and had wanted his offspring. As soon as Jordan was fine, Dr.Kaushik gave us a call and there we were at his clinic. Under his table lay Jordan..
Oh God! Is this a two month old kid ? He looks all grown up. A beautiful grey with a tinge of green. He looked sad as he looked up at me when I patted him. I tried picking him up, but couldn't.  He had long legs and heavy bones.  Dr. Kaushik taught me how to hold him. All formalities done, Jordan started for home with us.
Yes Jordan was a Napolitan Mastiff, my third pet at my home after marriage. Jeffy my labrador was not too happy to see him. He never missed any chance of bullying Jordan. In the beginning Jordan was scared of Jeffy. He stayed away from him. Slowly as he started gaining weight and height too he would not let his spirits get dampened by Jeffy.
Jordan was a very happy baby. He was playful and loved roaming around me. He loved everybody around. He and Jeffy both knew the sound of our car and both ran out as soon as they would hear the car. Jeffy just danced around but Jordan would talk, literally talk to us in his doggy language and get pacified once we answered him. Like if ever we got late, we would have to say sorry.  We could never scold the boys, or else Jordan was sure to create a scene.
People were scared of him because of his size( he would touch the tip of our seven feet main gate easily). He never bit anybody, loved to play around not understanding ever why the people screamed when he came near them. He would bring down the whole house barking if we ever tied him up when there were guests at home. He would always want to be with everybody. Jeffy was never interested in outsiders but Jordan would come, roam and sniff around and then sit in the midst of all with a thud.
He loved talking and playing. He played with the ball, rolled on the grass, loved being patted on the back and talked....most of all with me. He would always tell me when he was hungry, he was not well, he disliked something etc. etc.  I like a good mother would understand and do accordingly.
My heart broke the day when I had to part with him. He was huge, the kids were too small, I was working and there was no help at home. A person known who had a huge farmhouse wanted Jordan. We agreed to give Jordan to him as he was an animal lover. He came for a few days and once he got friendly with Jordan, one fine day he drove away with Jordan. Jordan  looked perplexed as I cried badly while he drove away looking at me. I was so upset and sad that I could never bring myself to visit Jordon. I would have brought him back with me  and I did not have the heart to relocate him again.
Then the news came...Jordan got burnt by electrical wires and succumbed. I was shattered and never quite got over it.  He kept his special place in my heart and memories.
It has been a few years now and I had Chiku and Tani. One wintery evening both Sanjeev and me went to the pet shop to get fish for the tank. The fish had not yet come, so we got hold of a few things and were looking around when a bag, a moving bag caught my attention.
"What is that in the bag?" I asked the owner. He smiled and asked me to open it. I was apprehensive but he urged me to. I moved sat on the floor, unzipped the bag and out he came....a thirty, thirty five days old baby. Cute, jet black...I was taken over by a strange feeling as he jumped around me. He licked me and soon both of us were playing around the shop.
As we were about to leave I set him on top of the counter. The owner sensed something and said," Sir take him with you. He seems to like Madam a lot. Madam has also fallen in love with him."
Now I had been warned many times before not to get another one at home as I would bring many more to foster, so I was reluctant. Sanjeev asking me to take him along was looked upon suspiciously...but before long I was already sitting with that cute bundle in the car and soon we were home.
Appy (Appy Fizz as per the vet) was and still is a sweetheart. He took to liking me a lot. He would roam around me. He even would enter the kitchen( no other pet enters the kitchen) and quietly lie down near me. At night he slept near me and would wake me up early morning exactly like Jordan did. He still sleeps in our room, near me...and he talks. Yes he talks exactly like Jordan.
He never likes to be locked up in a room. When we have guests, he loves to come and sit among us all. He is tall, compared to other labradors and his face is so much like Jordan. In fact he even responds if I call him as Jordan. Now what do my readers say!! Everything cannot be a coincidence. I know my Jordan has come back to me, his mumma and I have started believing that living souls do come back to earthly life even after death to fulfill their wishes.
