PATNA

Patliputra of historical fame,
What a heavy weight name !
The small little girl in skirts thought,
As history lessons she learnt by heart,
But hey! That is Patna!
The land of sattu parathas, litti and chokha,
Then why such history?
Wins and loss stories
Of the Mauryas, the Guptas
And the Palas,
Waves of the Khiljis
And Sher Shah Suri,
Mughal rule, the British and their East India Company,
Oh yes! Patna was then a part of the Bengal Presidency,
A trading centre on the banks of the Ganga,
Through which flowed the strains of Magahi in the whole of Magadha ,
I smell history here, in Kumhrar and Agam Kuan,
The ruins speak much of the mighty Patliputra,
Who can forget the Didarganj Yakshi ,
Or the Golghar and Padri ki Haveli?
Birthplace of Guru Gobind Rai Singh ji,
Takht Shri Harmandir Sahib ji,
The huge Gandhi Maidan,
Stands witness to many political 'abhiyans',
Patna also reminds me of Lalu and his clan,
Nitish and his smart plans,
Yummy khaja,
Holi ka dhol and baja,
But Queen Patali's son Patliputra, is still a mystery,
As my eyes lazily slide over Patna's history.
