LORD RAMA- THE MARYADAPURUSHOTTAM
The first born of King Dashratha
And Devi Kaushalya,
The Hero of Ramayana,
Heart-throb of Ayodhya,
An Avtara like the blue Krishna,
Born on the ninth day of Chaitra,
The seventh 'Avatar'
Of Lord Vishnu,
Revered by Hindus,
A blessing of Gods, Rama, Laxmana,
Bharat and Shatrughana,
All parts of His divinity,.
Standing for virtues and morality,
Chronicled by the great sage Valmiki
As well as Das Tulsi.
The small toddler,
A star to his father,
Doted on him all the mothers three,
Whatever he did they all agreed,
When he walked the amulets rang,
Hearts of his mothers along with sang,
The apple of their eyes,
Laughing in joy at the baby words and replies,
Time flew,
Baby Rama grew,
Came Vishwamitra,
Seeking from King Dashratha,
To take Rama to his hermitage to train
To fight the demons,
The power of his bow made the demons run,
It was time for him and his brothers to return.
Sita was the Princess of Mithila,
Daughter of Janak, was Janaksuta,
An avatara of Goddess Lakshmi,
Beautiful and virtuous was she,
To marry her off a swayamvara was arranged,
Life was to turn and destinies to change,
Suitors had to break Shiva's bow,
All their talent and power show,
The bow did not from its place budge,
Failed suitors sweated and fussed,
But by Rama, into two the bow was broken,
Sita was won over her hand taken,
Three younger brothers
Too were married to Sita's three Sisters,
Two entities became one whole,
Taking steps to play their divine role.
In Ayodhya it was time for Rama's coronation,
Of happy times and celebrations,
But brainwashed by the maid Manthara,
Kaikeyi wanted her son Bharata
To be the king,
Made the king dance and sing
To her tune,
Taking advantage of books
That her husband had granted,
She got what she wanted,
Getting Rama for years fourteen exiled,
The throne and crown to her son bequeathed,
Wanting to keep his father's words,
Rama decided to leave it all, stepping into a different world
Of simplicity and renunciation,
Accompanied by Sita and Laxman.
Blessed on the way
The stony Ahilya,
Blessed Kewat the boatman,
Hugging him with emotions,
Ate the berries that Shabri first tasted
And to him lovingly offered,
Life was blissful till the golden deer was seen,
To take it as her own Sita was keen,
But Ravana was playing the truant there,
He kidnapped Sita and with himself took her,
Then started the predestined,
The plan of God to see Ravana taste defeat,
With the help of Hanuman and Sugriv,
Rama set on his mission to get back and release
His wife Sita and finish Ravan,
The king of demons.
Frustrated and anguished by the separation,
Rama waged a war, but with patience,
Deities were appeased,
Gods were appealed,
To help defeat and finish the bad,
And defeat the demons he did at last,
Returning to Ayodhya amidst huge celebrations,
Rama was made the king in jubilation,
He was a king of the people,
Leading an austere life, simple,
Devoted to his kingdom whole heartedly,
He was loving and trustworthy,
The only dark patch was sending away His wife,
Pregnant and helpless, away from his life,
But then he was human too,
Justice to his people He had to do.
The name Rama,
Stands for upholding of dharma,
An ideal king and human,
Ideal son, brother and an ideal man,
A beholder of righteousness and dharma,
Maryadapurushottam by his karma,
His rule is termed Ram Rajya,
Where thrived truth and satya,
The Supreme Being,
Born to be an example to human beings,
An epitome of perfection,
Chanting of His name leads to salvation,
Teaching us dharma and righteousness,
His story all human souls cleanses,
Ram naam eases all pain,
His is the name that is true, accompanies us till the end.
