BOOKS

Books, books and books
That I would look
At, trying to figure out
The black letters that stood out,
Laugh and smile at the lovely pictures,
As a child, my fingers feeling the various textures.

Then I started going to school,
Now I thought the letters and words were a tool
To make me big like mommy and daddy,
Everyday the books disclosed something new to the kiddy
Me, slowly making me fall in love with them,
A love that had no end.

I learned the languages, literature and history,
Geography, Mathematics and Chemistry,
Physics, Biology and the Arts,
Learnt how to draw the charts,
They taught me equality and brotherhood,
Also told me about destructive slavery and apartheid.

They have taught me the good and bad,
Narrated incidents, both happy and sad,
For new events and experiences in them I glanced,
They explained the word romance
To me as well as love,
Taught me to be a good human there of.

They imparted knowledge,
From school to college,
Took me to the world,
With them all nations I toured,
Checked all the oceans and peaks,
Knew about the Aryans, Romans and Greeks.

They have been my best teachers,
Guide and philosophers,
My books are my best friends forever,
Never leaving my side ever,
They are always the true friends,
Living upto a friendship without any clauses or amends.

Today when every one has left me alone,
Old and cranky as I have grown,
My books still sit with me at the table,
Along with my old spectacle,
We still enjoy the company of each other,
Like inseparable, in love forever, lovers.
